Stork Prints has announced recent sales of its new-generation DSI digital label printer. Most recently, the DSI 5530L was sold to Etiquetage Legal, a group of French companies located in both Strasbourg and Paris. Etiquetage Legal specializes in the production of industrial labels, which are currently produced on flatbed screen printing machines.

As shown at Labelexpo 2011, the DSI is available as a stand-alone configuration and can be equipped up to a maximum of ten print positions. This future-proof platform opens up a whole new world of application possibilities in terms of colors, effects and the ability to print on special substrates.

“Because of the excellent ink properties, the DSI digital label press guarantees industrial labels that are highly resistant to light, scratches and chemicals,” said Guillaume Le Coz, managing director of Etiquetage Legal. “For us it was important to know that Stork Prints is manufacturing their UV inks in-house, and also manufactures inkjet nozzle plates for several inkjet head suppliers.”

According to Le Coz, a key factor in deciding to purchase a DSI press was its flexibility. “The purchased DSI press has a full print width of 330 mm and this width we do require for scaling up our production. Of course the DSI machine can also handle smaller width (165 mm or 210 mm) and this flexibility is considered as a big plus compared to other UV inkjet suppliers.”

Le Coz added: “The DSI printing quality is evaluated as best in class and our company Etiquetage Legal is very demanding regarding quality as we work for popular fortune 500 companies in the area of industrial labels…The upgrade solutions are very interesting for our business in the near future. Instead of investing in a new press we can upgrade the existing DSI press when our business requires new features. The Stork Prints’ service organization is impressive and our daily communication lines with sales, service and management are very short. This total package is exactly what we were looking for.”

Ganket, located in Dragør, Denmark, purchased its own DSI 5530L in summer of 2011. Ganket, which specializes in printing self-adhesive labels on a variety of materials, runs multiple Mark Andy UV-flexo machines, a Xeikon digital label press and a Cartes digital die-cutting machine.

Ganket opted for a DSI press with five print positions (CMYK + digital white) plus semi-rotary UV-flexo and die cutting in-line. The DSI machine also comes with a variable data printing module for personalized labels and numbering.

“We chose this particular configuration of the DSI because the digital white is of superb quality and we have evaluated the DSI press as best in the industry. As we have experience with digital toner technology, we have evaluated all inkjet suppliers before we took the decision in favor of Stork Prints,” said Per Anderson, owner of Ganket. 

“The DSI concept offers a very attractive TCO per printed label and the platform is ready for future upgrades if our future business will require additional colors and functionality. The purchased DSI machine can be retrofitted with extra colours like orange and violet, but also digital varnish is one of the options.”
